Miss Johnson's Stitchery Exposition

Miss Johnson's Stitchery Exposition will be presented at the EGA National Seminar 2010, Stitching on the Barbary Coast. The exposition will display original needlework submitted by members of EGA.

One does not need to be registered for Seminar to participate in this exhibit. The exhibit will be juried as well as judged.

Nov. 14-June 6, 2010 AMISH ABSTRACTIONS: Quilts from the Collection of Faith and Stephen Brown in the Caroline and H. McCoy Jones Textile Gallery, de Young Art Museum. 48 full-size & crib quilts dating from the 1880s to the 1940s. Quilts by various Amish communities are visual distillations of their way of life, a highly conservative branch of Protestantism with origins in Switzerland & Germany established in 1693. The women of Holmes County often used black as a background color to set off the jewel-like hues of their piecework with common patterns to include Roman Stripe, Ocean Waves, Bowtie, & Tumbling Blocks. June 5 GPR EGA Region Meeting in Concord features Teachers Showcase. Members also encouraged to bring their own SHOW AND TELL items of past & new GCCs. Stitched EGA Logos were due Feb. region mtg, however now have until this meeting to turn them in: so far 32 logos of different techniques become part of traveling resources. Broider Bling stitching challenge pasted on recycled CDs is due today.
